The elite "Driver of the Year Award" exhibit was unveiled at the Hall of Fame on December 13, 1993, as part of the fourth annual enshrining ceremony activities. The very special exhibit is now permanently housed at the Hall of Fame and Museum complex. "I am thrilled that this splendid display honoring great drivers from American racing is becoming a part of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame. This is where it belongs," Naman said. "Here, the story of the Driver of the Year Award will find an appropriate setting, giving race fans from throughout the world an opportunity to learn first hand about the exploits that earned these drivers the dozens of honors that each accumulated over the years." "I'm pleased and proud to add the important story of this great award, and the drivers who have won it, to our range of exhibits" added Naman. "It rounds out the picture of racing as we want to bring it to the fans." This new exhibit highlights the history of this very prestigious award honoring the following drivers, in alphabetical order: Mario Andretti, Michael Andretti, Bobby Allison, Mark Donohue, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, Emerson Fittipaldi, A.J. Foyt, David Pearson, Richard Petty, Bobby Rahal, Johnny Rutherford, Al Unser, Sr., Al Unser, Jr., Bobby Unser, Darrell Waltrip, Cale Yarborough and Lee Roy Yarbrough. |
