Darrell Waltrip’s Darlings On Display at International
http://talladegasuperspeedway.com/media/ CUTLINE INFORMATION: In his prime, Darrell Waltrip was known for being as quick to open his mouth as he was to circle a racetrack. It’s no surprise then that several of his racecars earned memorable nicknames. “Bertha” and the tandem “Double Thunder” cars are all on display at the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum’s Bill France Sr. building. Double Thunder was comprised of the No. 11 and No.12 Budweiser sister cars driven by Waltrip and Neil Bonnett in 1986. The duo won 4 races that year, with Waltrip accounting for three wins and Bonnett, one. Bertha, the No. 88 Gatorade Chevrolet, was driven by Waltrip during his 1977 campaign with DiGard Racing. From 1977 to 1979, Waltrip earned 19 wins for the DiGard crew, with Bertha accounting for 12. Admission to the International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum is $10 for adults, $5 for kids age 7 to 17 and free for kids age 6 and younger. Combo packages that include both tours of the museum and Talladega Superspeedway are $12 for adults, $8 for kids age 7 to 17 and free for kids age 6 and younger. The museum is open to the public from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., 7 days a week with the exception of major holidays (Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Year’s Day and Easter).
