(1917- )
In 1935, Ralph
Moody started a race car driving career which eventually included Sprints, Jalopies,
Modifieds, NASCAR Grand National (now Winston Cup) and USAC stock cars. Moody served in
the Army Air Force in World War II and then returned to racing, eventually joining DePaolo
Engineering Ford as a driver. In 1957, when the automobile manufacturers banned factory
participation, Moody joined forces with John Holman, and continuing on with Ford cars and
equipment, built 50 stock cars a year during the 1960's. At the end of the 1971 racing
season Moody formed Ralph Moody Inc., an engine and car building business. Moody
contributed significantly to stock car racing, especially in the area of high performance
and safety. From mid-1957 through 1971, Ford stock cars fielded by Holman-Moody and driven
by Bobby Allison, David Pearson, Fireball Roberts, Fred Lorenzen, Curtis Turner, Joe
Weatherly, Marvin Panch, Mario Andretti, Dick Hutherson, Nelson Stacy and Bill Amick,
scored 92 NASCAR Winston Cup victories. 'Competition Proven' Ralph Moody advanced
motorsports by helping others.
