INTERNATIONAL Persons must be retired from their line of work (driver, mechanic, etc.) in motorsports for at least five years. However, he may still be active in the sport in a different capacity, i.e., driver becomes broadcast announcer, mechanic has shop but is not active in racing, driver becomes team owner, etc. The executive committee will make the final decision on eligibility. The five year wait period also applies in event of death of an active motorsports participant for that person to become eligible for the Hall of Fame. The date used for basis of retirement will be April 30 minus five years from the current year. After a five year wait period, individual has 15 years of eligibility to be voted into the Hall of Fame. Each voting committee member will vote for no more than ten eligible people. To enter the Hall of Fame, and individual must receive 51% of the total number of votes. Example: If there are 100 voters, an eligible person must receive at least 51 votes to go into the Hall of Fame. If an individual does not get voted into the Hall of Fame during the 15 year period of eligibility, a five year wait period will take place and then the individual can be referred to the Old Timers Committee for consideration to be inducted as an Old Timer. The Old Timers Committee and a Special Recognition Committee will be established at a future date and will consist of Hall of Fame members.
