Home to legacies, legends and traditions, The International Motorsports Hall of Fame, totes numerous historical artifacts that keep the past of motorsports alive. Now on display in the monumental venue is Kyle Busch’s No. 5 Kellogg’s Chevrolet – the car earning him 2005 Sprint Cup Rookie of the Year.
In 2004, Hendrick Motorsports announced the young 20-year old Busch would replace two-time NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Champion and two-time Talladega Superspeedway winner Terry Labonte for the 2005 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season. In a car originally built for Labonte, Busch took control and captured the checkered flag twice in his debut season, first at Auto Club Speedway and then again at Phoenix International Raceway.
Today (as of May 29, 2015), Busch has 141 overall wins among NASCAR’s top three divisions – Sprint Cup Series (29), XFINITY Series (70) and Truck Series (42) – four wins of which happened at Talladega Superspeedway in 2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011. He has visited TSS’s Gatorade Victory Lane in all three series.
After missing the first part of the 2015 season due to sustaining an injury earlier this year, Busch recently made his return to the driver’s seat in the Sprint All Star race.
He needs to win a NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race and end up 30th in points to be eligible for The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup. There are 14 races left before The Chase for the NASCAR Sprint Cup kicks off – Busch is currently 41st.
Since the initial season, he has five top-10 results in the title chase, with a career best fourth in 2013.
