Chillin’ At The International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum
Published: March 30, 2022

The International Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum continues to make major strides in improving the experience for visitors by upgrading outdated or inefficient climate control, lighting systems, and museum exhibits. Check out recent and upcoming updates.

Air Conditioning Update

On March 28, the installation of a new chiller began. A chiller is a large, specialized air conditioning unit. The purpose of this chiller is to move hot air from one location and transport it to another location where it will be chilled by using cold water. The new equipment replaces outdated equipment that was original to the museum building. The old system was installed forty years ago and was only operating at twenty-five percent capacity. In addition to providing more comfort for our guests, this new chiller will provide a major reduction in our energy consumption and costs.

Lighting Updates

In addition to the updated air conditioning system ahead of the hot Alabama summer, a crew will begin installing new LED parking lot lights. We hope that these new lights provide more visibility and safety on dark nights. In April 2022, the museum exhibit hall LED lighting project will enter the second phase. We hope that the exhibit lights updates will provide a more exciting experience for our visitors.

Exhibit Update

Another major project that is in the works is the refurbishment of Bobby Allison’s airplane. We expect to unveil the finished product on April 21, 2022, just in time for the big race weekend at Talladega. We are so excited about this update and can’t wait to show it off.
